MNA-UMPNC Candidate Forum Statement 10/28/23
Hello! I'm Jeremy Lapham, and I running to be your Chief Representative for the APRN group. I’ve been at UM in some form for 20 years Nurse Aid, ICU Tech, RN, Clinical Instructor, Researcher , global development, and APRN at RAHS School Based Health Center.
Understanding the dual essence of this role, I realize that while it's pivotal to champion the APRN voice, it's just as vital to harmonize it within the wider symphony of our UMPNC family.
We're at an exciting juncture. Do we stick to the familiar, or do we welcome the innovative perspectives that ACT caucus candidates, including me, offer? My journey as a past Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President of UMPNC, coupled with my current role on the MNA Board of Directors, has provided me with a deep understanding of our union's dynamics as well as our professions needs and concerns. While appreciating our roots, I also see the need for a contemporary, member-focused approach.
The decision we face is straightforward: continue with the familiar or embrace the revitalized vision that the ACT candidates and I represent. Advocacy, Collaboration, and Transparency, the core values of the ACT Caucus, are not just words but a roadmap for strengthening our union. They guide our quest for a union that's receptive, inclusive, and truly mirrors our joint aspirations.
With nearly 20 years in nursing, I deeply understand the needs and concerns of our profession. For the APRN community, my objectives include:
Yet, in the role of Chief APRNs is just part in the broader UMPNC picture. As all of us here strive for leadership roles within UMPNC, it's really our collective future we're sculpting. It is this that drives my belief in the ACT caucus principles of Activism, Collaboration, and Transparency.
But beyond these ideals, it's my unwavering commitment to a participatory union that I hope to bring forward. A union where decisions reflect collective wisdom. Where leadership signifies stewardship. Where each member, irrespective of their role, feels acknowledged and empowered. Not A union where decisions are made behind closed doors without consultation with you.
This election isn't merely about roles. It's about charting our course. Do we remain in our comfort zone, or do we seek a brighter horizon? My vote is for the latter. And with your backing, we can transform the ACT vision into our tangible future.
With gratitude and hope, I pledge to seamlessly integrate APRN-specific challenges with UMPNC's broader vision. And I humbly ask for your vote. Let’s envision and shape a dynamic MNA-UMPNC future together.

Our Bylaws are Broken the Solution is a Tripartite Presidency
Our bylaws currently concentrate too much authority in one individual, leading to an imbalance of power and decision-making bottlenecks. I propose transitioning to a tripartite presidency. I introduced this concept at our rep ed day last year. Learn more in this slide presentation I prepared.
